When you come a beach community like Punta Mita, your first thought might not be a land tour, but there are some decidedly fascinating options available.  The city of Tequila is not far, and you can arrange a bus tour of the agave fields and the distillery that virtually guarantees you will be in a happy mood when you leave.  Learn about the many types of tequila, how the plants are chosen and harvested by the jimador, and how the legend of tequila's discovery came to pass.

There is a canopy tour, where you can fly down a zipline in the middle of the jungle.  And speaking of flying, try an airplane tour or a hot air balloon ride.  Prefer staying on land?  You can schedule a Jeep tour of the back country or develop your rock climbing skills.  Or try hiking, mountain biking, an ATV expedition or an adventure in an open Jeep.  Along the Riviera Nayarit, there are more adventures than vacation time allows, so you'll probably need to come back and visit us again.

Whale Watching Tours

From December through March or April, humpback whales ply the Bay of Banderas, giving birth to and rearing their calves in the warm waters of Mexico.  They can be spotted from shore, but the best viewing comes with a whale watching tour.  These boat rides last about 3 hours, and if you are lucky enough to get close to one of these gentle giants, it's an experience you won't soon forget.  Most people leave this tour with the thought:  "I think they were watching us as much as we were watching them."
